Department overview\u200b<\/strong><\/p>

The Department of Electrical Engineering was established in 2004, formerly named the Graduate School of Applied Electronics Technology (AET). Belonging to the oldest and best normal university in Taiwan, the department is a main training center for not only future engineers but also teachers in vocational high schools.<\/p>

To offer a competitive career development for students, our department strives to integrate innovative technologies and practical applications in class. We focus on three main research areas:\u00a0System-on-a-Chip (SoC), multimedia and communication, and intelligent control and robotics<\/strong>. In addition, we also engage various disciplines of electrical, electronics, information and control engineering.<\/p>

Currently, the department has 17\u00a0full-time faculty members, offering a full range of both undergraduate and graduate (master and PhD) programs.   • In 2004, the Graduate School of Applied Electronics Technology (AET) was established.<\/li>

  • In 2008, the department joined partnership with ALTERA to establish the new Electronic Laboratory.<\/li>

                The Department of Electrical Engineering aims to integrate expertise of various engineering technologies including electrical, electronics, information, and control. We aspire to raise talent with cross-field knowledge and capability of integration for the upcoming age of automation. To meet demands from the industry and offer support for governmental highlight projects, the department focuses on three core research areas, namely system-on-a-chip (SoC), multimedia and communication, and intelligent control and robotics.\u00a0<\/p>

                Nowadays, the trends of 3C and system integration, embedded software, and Internet combined with research of high added-value prevails among the high-tech industry. In other words, we have entered an era of information technology that champions cost reduction, high functionality and large capacity. The terminal device is no longer limited to a PC, since portability has become a standard of product design.\u00a0 On account of this fact, one can foresee a high demand for the system-on-a-chip technology for robots, IoT and Industry 4.0 as a whole. The Taiwanese IC industry has already started development of related products, such as CPUs, Internet and PC chips, or embedded chips. To meet the demand of the industry and in response to government policies, our department has incorporated the application of system-on-a-chips into our teaching and research with the following topics:<\/p>

                  With the privatization of the telecommunication market, the domestic communication industry is blooming with new business chances; in recent years, the industry has incorporated information technology to usher in a new age of the Internet: The ubiquity of the Internet is reflected not only in the manufacturing industry but also in the digital content industry, which includes software, video games, media, publishing, music, animation, and internet serving. Taiwan, with the advantages of language and geographical features, is well known for its diverse and excellent culture as well as abundant lifestyles and a creative environment. In addition, Mandarin has potential to become the first language of the Internet world, If these strengths can be integrated into the electronic information industry, Taiwan will be able to play a dominant role in the global digital content industry.<\/p>

                  In the meantime, the wireless network spreads and mobile equipments become more and more popular. The convenience of wireless Internet turns out to be significant in people\u2019s daily lives. The demands for wireless Internet services, such as Internet phones, video streaming, real-time multimedia, video conferences, etc., are increasing day by day. With the explosive growth of mobile equipments, technologies for the Internet of Things become more and more important. To investigate these important technologies, applications of Multimedia Signal Processing and development of communication systems are introduced in the Department of Electrical Engineering as follows:<\/p>

                    Due to the rapid increase in labor costs, in recent years manufacturers of various countries are moving toward intelligent automation. Industry 4.0 and intelligent robotics become the fields where private companies as well as governments invest their powers. International media have reported the trend of enterprises to employ a large number of industrial robots and predicted a new industrial revolution. In this regard, the development of intelligent robotics becomes a crucial research topic and direction for both the industry and the academics. For this reason, our department focuses on sensing systems, information control, and mechatronics technologies for developing intelligent robotics in view of industry demands and international trends. Moreover, our department also cooperates with the other colleges of the University to perform cross-disciplinary research on robotics.
